Unthing Press is an Australian artist-run publishing house dedicated to art-as-artefact publications, creative practice fiction, and research-driven experimental writing. Founded in South West Australia in 2026, it supports projects grounded in quality, tactility, and conceptual clarity, publishing a curated selection of finite editions — ‘unthings’ — for collectors and the wider arts community.

To unthing is to remove the name of something.

Through this act of un-naming, a work may be encountered beyond the limits of its historically loaded title, description, or association. Coined in 2022, the term describes a process of encountering an artefact before knowing its name.

Finite editions establish interdisciplinary fields through selected works that incorporate both analogue and digital processes. Each publication is treated as an independent contemporary study — a discrete field that engages with ecological imperatives by making the familiar strange.
