Unthing Press is an Australian artist-run publishing house dedicated to art-as-artefact publications, creative practice fiction, and research-driven experimental writing.

Founded in South West Australia in 2026, the press supports projects grounded in quality, tactility, and conceptual clarity, publishing a curated selection of finite editions — ‘unthings’ — for collectors and the wider arts community.

To unthing is to remove the name of something.

Through this act of un-naming, a work may be encountered beyond the limits of its historically loaded title, description, and association. Coined in 2022, the term describes the experience of encountering an artefact before knowing its name.

Incorporating both analogue and digital processes, each publication works as an interactive artefact, holding each editions body of work between fragments informed by creative practice and conceptual thinking.

Three publications from each edition are donated to individuals, organisations or institutions who significantly contribute and support creative practitioners.

Every edition forms a contemporary creative practice study: a discrete yet vibrant field that engages an ecological imperative by making the familiar strange.
